Last weekend, I spent a sun-drenched day at Anam Cara Rescue, one of the most heart-forward sanctuaries I’ve had the privilege of partnering with. Their mission is rooted in radical compassion—rescuing, healing, and honoring horses (and humans) who need a second chance. The horses here are more than animals; they’re companions in a deeper story of restoration and kinship.
The drive out was clear and calm, a rare bit of stillness before stepping into something much deeper. Even through a migraine haze (something I deal with chronically), the moment I set foot on the farm, a sense of grounding washed over me. Horses, as always, know what we don’t say—and offer what we didn’t know we needed.
I made my rounds greeting the herd, but my heart always pauses for Foxy, a towering Shire—one of only about 2,000 left in the world. His presence is ancient and regal, his eyes deeply knowing. He was in the middle of a nap when we arrived and I felt so privileged to be able to gently connect and be with him. I also spent time with Star, a neurodivergent soul who’s particular about her circle. Earning even a moment of her trust feels like receiving a quiet blessing.
Before leaving, I was offered fresh locks for more wearable energetic pieces—Foxy, Star, and Maize each gifted me strands that will soon become part of the Four Horses collections. There was also a reverent exchange: a small, sacred bundle of hair from Tommy, a beloved horse whose memory is cherished here. That hair won’t go into just any piece - it’s reserved for something special, and I’ll share more when the time is right.
While there, I also met Christina, the warm and intentional force behind Gardens of Asgard. She crafts locally grown, small-batch herbal oils and medicines. That day, she was helping build a greenhouse that will support Anam Cara’s regenerative soil project—yet another branch of their ecosystem of care. I really hope you take the time to jump to her shop and site to support and connect with more of the magic of the north of Maine and if you've a garden of your own whether house plants or growing food, I do hope you try out the regenerative soil products from this farm!
The day was rounded out with precious time spent with the sweet bovines on the land George, Frankie, Cooper and Diego - the last three of which are the most beautiful brindle color!! While George is a standout gentleman, Diego is the most liberal with kisses! haha If you're not careful you'll leave an interaction with a full unrequested bath! It was sweet of them to come out from the forest edges to say hello in the late afternoon sun.
This partnership is a quiet heartbeat behind my work. The horsehair in your jewelry isn't just a material—it’s part of a larger circle of respect, healing, and interconnection. When you wear a piece from Four Horses, you’re wearing a thread of this day. Of sunlight on skin, of soft breath through velvet muzzles, of legacy, loss, and ongoing life.
With gratitude to Anam Cara, Pam and to the horses who always remind me what real presence feels like.
